Project 1526 Invitation

Today is July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the United States of America. This year is also the 500th anniversary of “Resistance in the Americas,” however, and it is that anniversary I want to draw to your attention today through The 1526 Project:

The 1526 Project is a twenty-week spiritual formation curriculum and a public counter-witness to the Semiquincentennial. It uses the empire’s birthday as a foil to celebrate something far more awesome: people rising up against oppression and evil, century after century, in the name of a God who has always been on the side of the people who run.

This graphic banner on a dark background features large text reading "THE 1526 PROJECT: RESISTANCE AT 500" along with a smaller subtitle, "A SPIRITUAL FORMATION CURRICULUM & COUNTER-WITNESS." A circular emblem in the upper right corner reads "RESISTANCE 500" inside a broken chain, bordered by the phrases "FREEDOM BEGAN IN 1526" and "FAITH • RESISTANCE • LIBERATION." The lower left text contrasts America's upcoming 2026 milestone with a celebration of the "anniversary of resistance instead," framing the timeline from "INDEPENDENCE DAY TO THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT." On the right, a historic illustration framed in red depicts an uprising, showing a man raising a sword over an individual on the ground amidst a chaotic indoor scene.

Today I recorded a 25 minute video reflecting on this important project, its 20 week curriculum, our current July 4th holiday, and the words of Fredrick Douglass shared on July 4, 1852, on the 76th recognized birthday of our nation.

This image serves as a video thumbnail featuring a close-up portrait of a man looking directly toward the camera. He is wearing a blue t-shirt and a yellow baseball cap with "AIR FORCE ACADEMY" embroidered across the front. Large graphic text on the left side reads "Invitation To The 1526 Project," with a smaller subtitle below it stating "Resist and Heal." A translucent play button icon is centered over the image, and a video duration marker of "24:48" is visible in the bottom-left corner.

Please submit this form if you are interested in joining an online small group facilitated by me / Wes Fryer, reflecting on the “Project 1526” curriculum available on resistance500.com. We will meet Sunday evenings at 6pm ET /5pm CT / 4pm MT / 3pm PT starting July 5, 2026 for 20 weeks. There is NO COST and you do not have to attend each Zoom meeting, which will each last about an hour. You can also “join late” if you’re not able to start with us on July 5th.

Substack generated several short video clips from this longer video, and I’ve shared them on the Heal Our Culture YouTube channel. Check these out if you don’t have time to watch the longer 25 minute Substack Live video on “Resist and Heal.”
